Sat 13 May, Ash, Kent.
Though the wedding season is underway, we headed down to the beautiful village of Ash in Kent to play a sixtieth birthday party. The sun was shining, and it was one of those beautiful cloudless skies that we used to get a lot of in the Summer before global warming. A packed Marquee in the middle of a sleepy (actually, who are we to make such assertions) – seeemingly, sleepy village.
As we usually arrive around 6, it was welcome to have a dry get-in with a short walk round to the Marquee. Negotiating our way past the caterers and the hog roast – yoinks, don’t mind if we partake later – we set up the PA. Now, I don’t know much about ‘Marquee tech’ but I’ve not seen such a cool star cloth like this for a while. Like playing under the night sky with the heavens open.
And so the stage set, for what was one of the first appearances of the rebooted line-up.
With the place filled up it became apparent that the gathered were in high spirits and were up for a night of it. Sixties regalia was the theme with some fantastic efforts. Kinda like the opening scene of the first Austin Powers. It makes our job so much easier when people are just, well nice, and full of good vibes.
And so onwards with the entertainment. We decided to theme the sets, Motown/ Sixties, Disco, Modern Classics for Set 1.
